Yesterday afternoon they took Hunter to do some routine blood work and noticed he was kind of shivering a little and was breathing pretty fast. They decided to take his blood-sugar level because of this and it was critically low as well as his Bilirubin level was pretty high so that's what prompted them to put him in intensive care. These are symptoms babies show when they have an infection so with Tricia being GBS positive and having her water break, they thought that Hunter may have contracted that. So they got him over there, put an IV in him to help his blood-sugar, put him under the Bilirubin lights, put him on oxygen to help his breathing and put him on some antibiotics and took another blood culture to check for GBS. My dad and I gave him a priesthood blessing last night to help him. It was a really awesome experience and was actually good for all of us there because we all felt comforted that he would be alright. He is doing a lot better today. His blood-sugar is back up in the normal range, his Bilirubin is down, and his breathing is much better. His first GBS came back negative still so they think he may have just inhaled some fluid when he was born that may have caused the infection. I noticed right after he was born that he was kind of gagging and gurgling on some junk in his mouth so they put a tube down him to try and suck it all out so it makes sense that that may have been the cause of the infection. They're going to keep him in there at least until tomorrow though to keep him on the antibiotic and under the lights. He's off the oxygen and slowly getting off the IV so he shouldn't be in there much longer if things continue to go well. we'll keep everyone posted once we know more.

The NICU experience can be so unnerving, but it is nice to know they are in a safe place and getting the help he needs. Good luck, hope all goes well
